What is Cloud Hosting?

What is cloud hosting in reality? The term 'cloud' seems to be quite modern in today's information technology, Internet and hosting terms. Nonetheless, only a few in fact can tell what cloud hosting is. Probably it is a fine idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a quite long tale succinct, we will first enlighten you on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Confined to a Remote File Storage Solely.

1. Providing a remote disk storage service, which involves one disk storage device for all clients, does not convert any given hosting distributor into a genuine cloud hosting distributor.

The cPanel hosting providers call the ability to provide remote file storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. Until now there is nothing wrong with the cloud terminology, but... we are talking about hosting solutions, not remote file storage solutions for individual or corporate purposes. There's constantly one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to call a shared web hosting solution, powered by a single-server web hosting environment, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the other components of the entire web hosting platform must be functioning in precisely the same way - this does not apply only to the remote data storage. The rest of the services involved in the whole hosting procedure also must be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's quite hard. A very small number of hosting suppliers can truly do it.

2. It Includes Domain Names, Email Boxes, Databases, FTPs, Hosting Control Panels, etc.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote file storage solely. We are talking about a hosting service, serving multiple domain names, web sites, mail addresses, etc., aren't we?

To dub a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one takes a lot more than distributing merely remote file storage mounts (or perhaps servers). The mail server(s) need to be dedicated solely to the email related services. Performing nothing different than these particular procedures. There might be just one or possibly an entire stack of e-mail servers, determined by the total load produced. To have a real cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be performing as one, irrespective of their actual quantity. Carrying out nothing else. The same is valid for the users' CPs, the FTP, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) too.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a real cloud hosting provider will support multiple data center sites on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a DNS of a real cloud hosting corporation:

dns1.cfpsupreme.com

dns2.cfpsupreme.com

If such a DNS is furnished by your hosting supplier, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting environment in use, but you can definitely be sure when you perceive a DNS such as the one underneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This type of DNS only displays that the web hosting environment in use is one-server based. Perchance it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server hosting platform and holds a market share of more than 98 percent. In cPanel's case, a single server takes care of all hosting services (web, mail, DNS, databases, FTP, hosting Control Panel(s), files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Interpretation of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not restricted only to a remote data storage service, as a lot of web hosting corporations wish it was. Unfortunately for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file hosting providers would have been classified as cloud hosting ones long ago! They are not categorized as such, because they simply furnish file web hosting services, not cloud hosting solutions. The file hosting platform is indeed very simple, in comparison with the hosting platform. The remote file storage platform is not a cloud web hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's merely one simple segment of the entire cloud web hosting platform. There's plenty more to be discovered in the cloud hosting platform: the hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the FTP cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the foreseeable future, maybe a couple of new clouds we currently don't know about will emerge out of the blue.
